Recently, I setup a W2K server, connected to the Internet via DSL and WinPoet as connection software (static IP). I am planning to use the SMTP component of IIS5 for outgoing messages. I have setup AD and DNS. For the DNS, under "Forward Lookup Zones", I have deleted the "." entry, as for external DNS I am relying on my ISP's DNS. For the "Default SMTP Server", I have allowed Relay from all my NIC IPs as well as 127.0.0.1. I have not setup any clients yet, but when from the server itself I Telnet to Port 25 to Test SMTP Communication (MS KnowledgeBase Q153119) my messages get immediately dumped into Badmail folder with the error code 0xC00402C7 and <> as the sender. My DSL is functional because my browser works fine. Also I can successfully Nslookup external domains.

Guessing that something might have become corrupted during the installation, I have formatted and started from scratch twice, with the same result. I have a feeling that I am missing something rather simple that causes the SMTP not to see the outside world, but I don't know what.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
