Just an FYI if anyone cares. I had to uninstall and re-
install the SMTP service and it started working again.

I'm running windows 2003 and experiencing similar problems. I can relay
mail from my internal exchange server through the smtp server, I can recieve
external emails relayed through the smtp server to exchange fine, and I can
even telnet to the server and send mail just fine. however, with NDR's and
test mail dropped into the pickup folder, I am getting the following error.

Unable to deliver this message because the follow error was encountered:
"0x80004005".

The specific error code was 0x80004005.

I've tried just about everything, and no luck on getting it to work. I've
removed and reinstalled the smtp service and tried different configurations
of the server. I should not that I am running ISA Server 2004 beta and smtp
message screener as well.

I should note that I am using a non-desirable work around. I created a
second virtual server. the one server (default) receives while the second
new virtual server sends to the internet. With this setup, the second
virtual server is succesfully sending back the reports of non deliverable
mail. I would move both sending/receiving to the second vs, but I don't
know how to get the message screener to bind to the second server rather
than the first.

any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

thanks

- David
