Ok peps here to story, I have a 2000 server running
exchange 2000. When I set up the domain controller I
follwed the guide lines for hardening a 2000 server and
installed some piece of software or patch from microsoft
to help close of some of the insecurities in IIS.

The problem I have is now that I have installed exchange I
can not telnet to the box on port 25. I have tried telnet
from the box to the local host address (telnet 127.0.0.1
25) and get a 'connection to host lost' message. When I
try to telnet to it from the internet I get a connection
refused message. Now I have checked the firewall config
and have confirmed the NAT rule is working and port 25
does get to the local host.

As far a I can work out this has to be soemthing the
exchange server/2000 server is doing as a result of this
patch.

Has anyone come accross this before? Does anyone have any
suggestions to fix this?

Answers on a postcard please.

Thanks James

Would help to know the "some piece of software or patch" you
installed. Could be as simple as port 25 being blocked by your ISP,
or in TCP/IP restrictions.
