I'm currently Running Windows Server 2003 and using the pop3/smtp service here are the issues i'm having.

I have an MX record setup through directnic to point to my mail server.
esystems.n-isc.com

I can send emails out of the n-isc account to ellipticsystems.com and bca-online.com, and possibly others, but I have accounts on those other domains to check to see if the messages went though ok. And those accounts can send to my n-isc.com account

Here is the errors I have been getting:

Delivery Status Notification (Failure)
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

ebay@n-isc.com

the details.txt file in the email reads

Reporting-MTA: dns;esystems.elliptic
Received-From-MTA: dns;mx17.sjc.ebay.com
Arrival-Date: Wed, 28 Jul 2004 15:08:11 -0700

Final-Recipient: rfc822;ebay@n-isc.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0

I'm also having emails just sit in the queue folder and not get sent out. (I have reinstalled SMTP/Pop3 several times, and IIS all over again. I used http://www.ilopia.com guide to setting up mail servers.

I get some emails for some reason, yet not others. Here is what the event log has for errors:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: smtpsvc
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4006
Date: 7/28/2004
Time: 1:01:46 PM

there are many more error messages identical to the above, except for ip address and domain.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Nevin,

A few suggestions:

If you're using CDO, first make sure that you provide legitimate values for
both the Sender and From fields. Some servers reject messages if both
aren't populated.

Next, make sure the from/sender addresses are valid addresses for your
domain. Quite a few mailservers these days use a "sender verification"
method that attempts to resolve the sender's email address against the
originating domain before deciding to accept an inbound message from it.
For instance, if you just use a made-up address like
fortheheckofit@mydomain.com for convenience or to bitbucket spam replies, a
server using sender verification will get an "unknown recipient" response
from your server and then cancel the transaction.

You should also check if the IP address of your server is on one of the spam
blacklists. If it is, you'll need to get with your ISP and have them try to
get the address removed from the listings.
