Hi eb
Are there any other risks than spam,
when not applying authentication
to the smtp service??

I want to prevent the overhead of username & password maintanence.

Uhm...well...they can use the SMTP server to send threats and other
unpleasant emails to people. This of course does not look good for the
company, because your companies SMTP server will be the sender.
