I've setup a the SMTP service under IIS but when I tried to do the outbound
email testing. I receive the "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for aaa@ffg.com"
error. Anyone can tell me is this error related to the SMTP server itself or
the SMTP service??

The error message tells you that the user is not able to relay. If the SMTP
service is configured to require authentication, pass a valid set of
username and password.

It is impossible to tell if it is the client or the server that is wrong
configured, becuase you have not provided us with any information about how
you want it to be set up.

Hi~Kristofer,
The case is that I've enable the SMTP service in the IIS5.0 and I've
configured the smart host which relay to our Domino server's IP address. When
I telnet to the IIS server and try to send Internet email, this error come
out. I've check those relay control setting which can allow this IIS to relay
on, but it seemed that the IIS can relay on the Domino. I've enable the
"annoymous" login, both in the IIS and Domino.
Kindly advise what's other possible reason for the failure of SMTP relay.

Do you want people to authenticate to the SMTP Service?

If so, enable Windows Authentication, and pass a valid set of credentials
when sending.

If this is an internal email server that cannot be reached from outside, you
might want to allow everyone to relay. If so, you can use the Relay settings
(click the Relay button on the Access tab), to allow a set of IPs to relay
without first authenticate.

Access and Relay is not the same thing. So enabling "Anonymous Access", will
not make it possible for everyone to relay, and therefore you get the error
message you get. Becuase as far as i can read in your messages, you have not
given any login credentials when you try to send, and you have not granted
the machine you send from the ability to send emails.

Do you own ffg.com?

If you do, the problem is that hercules.ffg.com [216.136.109.130] is not
configured to accept/relay for ffg.com. That server is currently configured
as the mail exchange for the domain, but will not accept mail for the
domain.

If you don't own that domain and were just using it for testing, I'd suggest
you use a domain that you know will accept mail.
