Author smtp can't relay - weird

I have a weird problem that I need some help with. We have
exchange 2k with sp4 installed, hosting 5 domains, all
with local delivery, no forwarding or any of that. 3 of
the 5 domains work fine, no problems but 2 of them don't.
Attempts to send mail to either of the domains results in:

You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For
<their.mailserver.com #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1
<user@mycompany.com>... Relaying denied>

These domains were working fine up until a couple of weeks
or so ago. I've checked the recipient policies, they are
fine, I've tried different configs of connector config,
including the original way I had it, with their own
connector and then I added them to a connector for one of
the working domains, it still works but they still do not.
I've stopped the whole thing and done the metadata thing
in the kb, I've used winroute to check the routing, it all
looks right and winroute says they are up and available
but.. I still get ndr' for these domains. I've deleted
them completely from exchange and re added them as new,
I've tried just about everything I can think of and I
still get ndr'. Just an fyi the dns mx record resolves to
the mail server no problem, and like I said they were
working. Does anyone have any ideas? It's driving me nuts,
and what makes it worse is one of the domains that doesn't
work is the one I set up for my bosses private use. help
please
