Author messages awating directory lookup

I have a exchange 2000 server. Once a day it stops
sending messages. When I look at smtp queues I see
messages awaiting directory lookup queue is growing.
After I restart the server it starts sending messages. I
see no related errors or warnings in the event viewer.

Thanks for your help.

Muhsin Ocal,

This is a common error when your exchange database exceeds the maximum size
(16GB). There is a procedure to temporarily increase the maximum mailbox
size:

I would suggest you have a look at people's mailbox sizes then try to clean
out some old messages. Once you are up and running again, a good idea is a
mailbox size policy.
