Hi,
Have a little problem wondering if anyone can help. We are using a software
program called LiveLink. LinkLink is on server4. LiveLink sends out
notifications using IIS SMTP on server6. It sends to internal addresses just
fine but when it sends to external it gets the message:

Reporting-MTA: dns;Server6
Received-From-MTA: dns;server4
Arrival-Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2005 12:45:10

Final-Recipient: rfc822;*******@hotmail.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0
Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 Relaying is prohibited

The firewall does have port 550 open for only SMTP traffic on server6.
Also, when I go into the Default SMTP Virtual Server properties and the
delievery tab and then advanced and check the "Attempt to direct delievery
before sending to smart host" it will send to external addresses but now not
to local ones. Also, the smart host is server2 where my exchange server
resides. I have enabled relaying ONLY to the Server4 (LiveLink server) IP
address. Is there a way to get these messages to deliever to external
messages? Also, I have exchange 2000 but will moving to exchange 2003 very
soon, will the solution be the same on both servers? Thanks in advanced.

First, 550 is an error code, not a port, and shouldn't be open in a
firewall. Port 25 is SMTP.

Yow! That's pretty convoluted, sending mail from Server4 through SMTP
on Server6 relayed through the smart host at Server2 to get to
Hotmail.

According to your message, relaying is prohibited at Server6 which
indicates you likely need to figure out your relay scheme and allow
all the servers involved to relay.
