| Hi,
I have a problem with my IIS on Windows XP. I want to develop a web site
that is capable of sending emails when a user clicks the "send" button. So I
installed IIS with SMTP service on my Windows XP professional.
I had service pack 2 installed. When I click on the Internet Information
Services icon in the Administrative tools I don't get anything. I can see
mmc.exe in the administrative tasks but and the only thing I can do is kill
the process. After a lot of trying I uninstalled SMTP service and since then
I get the IIS console and I was able to manage the web sites. Note that
I was able to uninstall it only in "Safe Mode" only. In normal mode the
uninstall program hangs. Now again I needed the SMTP service so I thought I
would install Windows XP from scratch. Maybe there was something wrong with
my previous installation. Now I have a fresh copy with IIS and SMTP
installed and without any service pack yet. I ran the IIS and again I never
get the console. I could wait for hours but would not get it. I tried using
mmc console and adding the IIS component then mmc would stop responding. I
do not have a firewall and disabled my virus program. I tried stopping the
SMTP service but didn't help. I decided to try installing Service Pack 1 but
it hangs too. It is a fresh copy so I do not understand what could be wrong
and its the second time I am getting this problem. What can I do? Please
help.
Frank
