I'm trying to send a SMTP message via CDO and Windows Script Host. I'm
getting a message from my relay server indicating it could not verify my host
name via reverse DNS lookup. I know the problem is the relay wants to verify
my identity before forwarding the message, but I can't seem to figure out why
my Windows 2000 server (w/out IIS installed) is changing the "from" field.

My "from" field is like person@xx-yyyy-zzzz.domain. The message says it
couldn't verify me as xxyyyyzzzz. It is dropping the dashes in the server
name.

Anybody have any clues what is happening and how I can work around my problem?

Tanks,
Bruce.

I thought I might clarify my situation In case nobody is responding because
they think I might be a malicious person.

I am told by the email system admins that the DNS entries for the server
needs to be setup "correctly" but they won't tell what exactly that means.
What I am trying to determine is how can I find out what the OS will use as
its identity when sending an SMTP message via CDO. If I can determine what
is being used then I can manipulate my messages so they match the required
identities.

With respect to the server's identity, the NetBIOS name is not used or the
CDO system is modifying it for whatever reason. I believe this to be true
because the server's NetBIOS name is something like xx-yyyy-zzzz but the mail
hub thinks it is xxyyyyzzzz. Somewhere in the translaction something is
stripping the dashes from the server name. There are no DNS entries for a
server xxyyyyzzzz so the reverse lookup the mail hub is using to verify the
server's identity is failing.

I tried creating a DNS alias for the name xxyyyyzzzz w/no success. I tried
changing the DNS entry to strip the dashes w/no success. I tried chaning the
"from" field of my message w/no success. I'd really like to know what is
happening so I can adjust my script appropriately.

thanks.
