IIS and SMTP - SMTPSCV Event ID 1002

Exchange 2003 SP1 running on Windows 2000 Adv. Server. The STMP virtual
server will not start and hence messages are not being sent or received. The
following error appears in the System log when I try and start the service:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: smtpsvc
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1002
Date: 22/02/2005
Time: 07:43:30
User: N/A
Computer: EXCHANGE
Description:
Server events initialization failed for virtual server 1. Server events may
not be called for this virtual server.

Any assistance appreciated.
