| I am at my wits end with this one. It seems this should all be so easy but I
am missing something here.
We have configured a virtual server on our Windows/2000 Profession machine.
Our outlook client (and via telnet) can access the SMTP server, and create a
mail message to delivery to other systems on the internet. Everying works
just great.
HOWEVER, we need to change that virtual server to send all the outbound
emails to the SMTP server for our ISP. So we just added the IP address (in
brackets) and configure for plain text authorization and put in our username
and password from our ISP.
When then with that configuration the SMTP virtual server just refuses to
authenetic itself to the ISP. We see in the event log that our virtural
server does make the connect with the "smart host" and exchanges greetings.
However when to stats to send a mail the ISP's server replies with
"authorization required" and drops the connection.
So that gives? Why is the virtual sever not sending out the autorization
informatin we provide? Surely there must be a bunch of you all out there
doing this...what have I missed. My searchers on this forum don't seem to
turn up a answer...please help.
Thanks it is appreciated.
