I have a Windows XP SP2 machine setup to send some of our outbound mail
only. I am using IIS SMTP Virtual server. It worked great for a month
then I would get times where it has lots of e-mails in the queue and
stops sending. Stoping and starting the SMTP server from IIS and then
all messages start sending fine.

I switched this to another machine to see if it was just the computer I
was using, however, after a month, same problem has started on this one
as well.

Any ideas?

Stop using XP as a mail server. Check the log files for information,
both SMTP logs and event logs.
