Windows Server 2003.
Outlook Express 6.
POP3 Service installed.
SMTP Service Installed.
Active Directory installed.
vbsensei.com is hosted on the public Internet from a big fat server in-house
I am monkeying with the settings to test POP3. So, from in-house, behind
the firewall, I can send email from mlabosh@vbsensei.com to
mlabosh@vbsensei.com successfully. This proves the SMTP and POP3 servers
are alive, listening, and responding.
Excellent.
So I try to send email from mlabosh@vbsensei.com to mlabosh@hotmail.com and
I get this error message from OE:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'mlabosh@hotmail.com'. Subject
'VB -> HM', Account: 'vbSensei Mail', Server: 'mail.vbsensei.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for mlabosh@hotmail.com',
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
Now I am stumped. For SMTP relay, authentication is based on the sending
account, not the receiving account. So what's going on here?
