| HI,
My mailserver has been down over the holidays so my relay server (win 2000
smtp) folder has many messages in the "bad mail" directory in the mailroot.
I am wondering how i could process thease emails now my mail server it up
and running again?

| You can try to stopping SMTP service, then copy and rename all the files
with the .bad to no extension to the pickup folder, at the end start the
smtp service.

| Can you let me know if this worked. I just had a bad experience with my SMTP
service and am a little gun shy about shutting down this service unless it is
really necessary. Thanks.

There is no reason to stop the service to perform such a procedure.
The message files in Badmail are not held open by the service after
being deposited in the folder.
However, the files in your Badmail are likely to be double-bounces
(undeliverable bounces) that resulted from the original messages, not
the messages themselves. It wouldn't be a bad idea to send along
these bounces, though, since that would notify the original senders
that there was a failure. But the nature of the queue lifetime
dictates that retrieving the original messages is improbable. It does
depend on the nature of your failure.
