| my smtp server, running on IIS/Windows Server 2003 will only accept incoming
emails addressed to my domain if the 'anonymous access' box is checked in the
authentication dialog. unfortunately, this also allows anyone to relay
through my server. I want to make the server secure so that it will not
relay any unauthorized messages, but will still accept incoming emails
addressed to my domain, and allow me to send messages out through it. I have
everything configured as recommended on all the web forums I've read to date,
and as recommended by the windows knowledge base:
in the relay dialog, the 'only the list below' option is selected (empty list)
, as is the 'allow any computer which authenticates...' I have tried
everything I can think of, but nothing seems to work. if the 'anonymous
access' button is not checked, no mail goes through the server, not even my
own. all gets rejected. none of this prevents me from sending email out
through the server, since I have my local computers set to authenticate with
the server.
