Here is my breakdown, we currently forward all external emails (to Internet)
from our Exchange 2003 organization to a smart host (IIS 5.0 SMTP Relay, by
IP), which also archives all emails. Once the email is archive a copy is
sent to the IIS 5.0 SMTP server and is forwarded out to a define DNS Smart
host name on the deliver tab of the SMTP relay, from there it is then to our
firewall to FrontBridge. (Microsoft SPAM provider)

My question is we have just been acquired by another company, as of now all
of our domain names and MX records for our company will stay the same. The
company that has purchased us has informed me that all email communication
has to be encrypted between us and them. Our email archive system does not
provide encryption support and not sure if Front Bridge supports as well.
Also to reconfigure our current email system would take so time to configure.
With that said we have configured a VPN connection over the Internet with the
new company and all traffic that traverses the VPN will be encrypted. Can
the SMTP relay host we are using now on the email archive server (IIS 5.0) be
configured to spilt emails and route over two different paths? By this I
mean can IIS 5.0 be configured to route all email to this mew company over
the VPN connection if another SMTP relay host is configured and all other
traffic is still going to Front Bridge?

Yes, of course.

Any Remote Domain that you set up in /Domains underneath an SMTP VS
creates a static mailroute for that namespace.

This mailroute will override a Smart Host set up at the SMTP VS level.
