Author Linked Servers - HELP GEORGE or HILARY

We are adding our Indexing Server to our SQL Server using Linked servers.
Every day it seems to crash. Is there a right way and wrong way to link
servers. Is this the right approch for a high traffic system?

What exactly is crashing? Any errors in the event viewer?

Thank You

What happens is we see this message around the time:

aspnet_wp.exe (PID: 2696) stopped unexpectedly.

We restart IIS and then try to restart SQL Server but it still gives an
error till we reboot.

Not my area of expertise but looks like a access violation in the asp.net
worker process.
Might look at the following articles:

823015, 321564, 326366, 812406, 821387, 823409, 835387.

the account you are using to access your linked server must be a dbo in the
master database on the SQL Server. This could be your problem.

Hi,
I work with Doug, who posted the original question...

I'm a little confused by this response for two reasons:

1. Do you mean the account that sql server is using to connect to
indexing service needs to be a dbo, or do you mean that the login the we are
using to connect to SQL server. We have set the security options on the
linked server to connect to indexing server using the sql login's current
security context, and we are using a sql server login with limited
permissions to connect to sql server from the asp.net web app. which do we
need to change?

2. If this is a login security problem, why is it only showing up once a
day at a particular time? I would expect that if the connection login has
not been set up properly then our app would not be ably to query the linked
indexing service at all. The site can run for 24 hours without a hitch and
then all of a sudden it stops working around the same time every day.
