Author Searching the right catalog

I have index server running. I have 4 catalogs; the 2
default (system and web) and 2 new ones (cat1 and cat2).
I can search the catalogs through the management console
in each seperate catalog successfully. When I submit a
querry from the web page I do not get any results. I am
using the default ASP code from index server and have only
edited it with respect to logo file.

When I enter information in the search box and press OK, I
get very little information back as compared to when
searching through the management console. In other words,
when searching through the console for a specific word, I
can get 25 results. When going through the web interface,
I only get 4 results.

How do I determine what the web page is actually
searching? Can I specify that it search Catalog 1 or does
it go out to a default somewhere? I can include the ASP
code it you need it.

Thank you for any help.

Each web site is bound/mapped/ or tracks a specific catalog. If you right
click on a catalog in the MMC and select properties, and then the tracking
tab you will notice a drop down box called WWW Server. You select which web
site you want your catalog bound to /mapped/or tracked.

By default it will be the default web site.

You are probably getting more results from the IS MMC, because your results
are coming back from physical roots and not the virtual roots. Virtual roots
are roots/virtual directories in your web site which show up as folders with
blue globes on them in the directories folder for your catalog. It is also
likely that in your web searches you are only seeing hits that the account
you are searching under has rights to see. This will probably be the
IUSER_MachineName or anonymous account.

** That makes sense - I am going to put everything I want
indexed into a subdirectory under the WWWROOT directory.
Even though that is not very clean, it should ensure that
my querries from the 'search page' will find the right
catalog and index (right?)

I will also doouble check the rights issue - my account is
an administer so I should see everything but I did not
think about the 'web user' user. Thank you for your
help. I will let you know how it turns out....

** I was able to get it working by putting everything
under a subdirectory under the c:\inetpub\wwwroot
directory in the WEB catalog. I then had to make the
I_User account a member of the local Administrators group
in order for any search to come back with anything. It
doesn't seem right to do that. I even tried giving the
I_User account full control over the specific directory
and it did not work.

Anyhow, since it works as a member of the local admins, a
new question has arisen. When I try to click on either
link (qfullhit or qsumrhit.htw) I get a message back that
says....

"File /qsumrhit.htw. The template file specified in
CiTemplate cannot be found."

What is this and how can I fix that?

Thanks for any help,

richard
