Exchange Full-Text indexing
|
|
|
| Wondering if someone can tell me or point me to the correct group for an
answer to this question.
Full-Text Indexing for Exchange what is the true advantage of it
or
If it is turned off what is the disadvantage of it
Reason it seems to be putting a load on the exchange server that causes a
problem with a 3rd Party App that is essential to organization.
Thanks for your help in advance,
BillB

| the correct group is one of the exchange groups - however I do have some
expertise in this area.
When a users uses Outlook and advanced Find to search for messages in his
mail store (not his ost or pst), or in public folders, his search greps or
trawls the exchange store. If many users do such searches it can cause
performance problems on your Exvhange Server.
To decrease the load of such searches you can use Exchange Content Indexing
to build an index that Outlook will use, or rather Exchange will detect
Outlook searches and use the Full Text index instead of using the grep.
Exchange Content Indexes also has more featues, for instance it can search
in attachements, and do stemming, so a search on book will match with books,
booked, booking, book's, etc.
