Author Indexing service returns blank filename on windows XP desktop

When using search companion with indexing service switched on, on XP Pro
SP2, files found on the desktop are shown in the search results window as
a blank space. You can't right click on them, you can't do anything with
them, but a file is definatly found as a space is left.

The files are correctly indexed by the indexing service, and I'm certain
of this because I can check using the mmcsnap in query tool. This only
effects the desktop. Sub directories of the desktop and other directories
are unaffected.

Anyone seen this or have a solution ?
