Author Index Server in a NLB environment

Hi All,

I'm currently carrying some proof of concept work to see if our
Intranet works in a Windows 2003 network load balanced environment.

Has anyone got any experience of using Index server in such a scenario?
We have 2-3 applications which rely heavily on IS, I'm sure I remember
some sort of issue where documents could not be indexed on remote
machines, or perhaps it was that you couldnt query remote indexes?

I have three possible options in minds:

a) Run the app, index and documents on all servers in the cluster/farm,
using 3rd party file synchonisation to keep it all up to date
(Obviously excluding the index from the file synch!)

b) Only run the app on one box...kind of defeats the object of having a
cluster/farm!

c) Introduce a 3rd box to the farm specifically for file
storage...again, reduces the scalability/redundancy

I'm open to any ideas anyone may have.

Thanks! ;-)
Simon.
