Okay, I'm really frustrated! I'm running win 2k advance server, and I can't seem to get iis 5.0 configured correctly.

When I try to load a simple asp page, I get a 500 error. The system event log give a DCOM error message that says the server failed to respond before the timeout. The server will handle htm files just fine.

What I've done: I've followed the steps in the microsoft kb article Troubleshooting ASP (#309051).

Step 1. Delete global.asa (didn't exist).

Step 2. Set application protection to Low (successfully loaded asp)

Step 3. If step 2 works (it did), add iwam to local admins (no help). If adding to local admins does not help, run synciwam.vbs (no help).

(skip Step 4 - it's for situations when adding iwam to local admins makes a difference)

Step 5. Two system event log messages are listed: (1)Event ID 10010 - DCOM - user NT Authority/system - The server {3D14228D-FBE1-11D0-995D-00C04FD919C1} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. and (2) Event ID 36 - W3SVC - User N/A - The server failed to load application 'AppPath'. The error was 'Server execution failed'.
If both of these messages are in system log, then NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users and/or NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE are missing from the USERS group.

This is the behavior I'm getting, but both special groups are in the Users group. I tried re-moving and re-adding them to the users group.

As a last resort, Step 6 suggests re-creating the iis packages. This did not help.

I suspect that something is wrong with the permissions assigned to the Users group, but I can't find anything. The only other problem with this is that I even added the two NT AUTHORITY groups to the local admins group - I still couldn't load asp pages.

I've spent three days on this and I'm toast. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
