Author Filter for blog comments spam?

Hey,

I've built a site that accepts visitor comments, but most of what I get
from the form is automated spam from China. Anywhere from 80-100 spam
comments every few days, a lot of it repetitive.

I'd welcome ideas to filter this out. Filtering by character type (no
Chinese characters?) would help a lot, but a growing segment of it is in
English.

I don't really want to require logins to post messages. I guess I could
use a buffer page that requires the user to type in a random displayed
code to gain access. Is that the best option?

I'd be happy to hear your experiences with this.

Thanks.

Not sure if it's the best but it cuts down on the spam. You could always
block China with IPSEC.

I require a logon to post.
