Problems With My Webmaster

| I have elected a foreign country to design my website at a very low
price. Now that I want to make changes and update it, this company is
trying to get more money out of me by chargeing for every little
detail. This was discussed in the begining that all updates will be
at no cost. Now they have made a reverse rule that all updates are
subject to fees.
This I don't mind, but the fees are outrageous.
I would like to save my website and take control or transfer it to
another webmaster who can make prompt updates.
How can I do this? Please help.

In whose name is your domain registered?
If it's in their name then you're screwed.
Who's hosting your site?
If it's them you're screwed.
Get the domain in your name then transfer it to a new Web host.
You're new webmaster should be able to help with this.
Even if you keep the same Web host (as long as it's no them),
change the Username and Password to prevent their access.
Also, what does your contract say about maintenance fees?

| interesting choices/lessons for the future...
--"elected a foreign country.." ( no legal recourse)
--"..very low price" ( low bid , you get what you pay for)
--"updates .. at no cost" ( if it sounds too good to be true, it isn't)
--"..save my website " (third party licenses in use ?)
--"another webmaster .." (this time for pay I presume)
