Author upgrading from 4.51 to 8.1

Hi all,

Can anyone describe what would be the best way to upgrade from Weblogic 4.51 to
8.1? (ie go straight to 8.1, incremental, etc.) It seems the EJBs need to be
converted to version 1.1 (or higher?) Is there anything else to keep in mind?
We're actually using JDK 1.3 with 4.51 right now (no clustering).

I see the 8.1 documentation doesn't mentioned upgrading from 4.5.1 to 8.1, it
goes as far back as 5.1:

http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/upgrade/

Unfortunately we're also using netscape Enterprise Server 3.6 as a webserver
just because it's the only webserver we have a 4.51 plugin for. We'd like to
switch to Apache (but the plugin for 4.51 only works on a really old 1.X
version, and we don't even have that plugin) or Sun ONE. Is a plugin still
needed to interface between Weblogic and whichever webserver you have?

thanks
Karnov
