Users are being challenged for a password
|

| Hello,
We installed Sharepoint services 2.0 and set up some sites. They are
accessed now via the URL http://ServerName/sites/sitename.
We want to replace the "servername" in the address by a logical name. So in
IIS manager, we put in a alternate name attached to an IP (the IP of the
server).
Now, the users are always challenged for a passowrd when accessing through
the URL http://LogicalName/sites/sitename, but they are not when going
through http://servername/sites/sitename.
How can we prevent that from happening? The users are already authentified
in their Windows session on the domain.
It has to be something in IIS...
Thanks.

| Have you tried turning off Windows Authentication on that particular Virtual
Web?

| Hi,
No I didn't and I think I need the Windows Authentication.
I need to grant access to some users only or would that be taken in charge
by Sharepoint Services? If so, I'll turn it off. Also, in the dashboard, I
need to be able to use the domain username of the users as I'm filtering the
data based on that username.
If Turning off the Windows Authentication won't prevent me to use those,
I'll do it.
Please confirm.
Thanks a lot.
JFS.
