I have a working MCMS site that is allowing anonymous access. I believe
another administrator on the server changed the anonymous user in IIS (I am
still trying to verify), resulting in an inconsistency between IIS, SCA and
SiteManager. I believe this inconsistency was causing me to receive a simple
"Access denied" message when I attempted to browse to any page of my web site.

First, I updated Site Manager to grant access to both the old and new
anonymous user accounts and I was again able to browse to the site. However,
I didn't like have both accounts authorized, so I removed the old account and
the "Access denied" message returned.

Next, I updated SCA to set the Guest user account to match the anonymous
user account in IIS and the newly authorized account in Site Manager. I can
again browse to pages in my site.

I have 2 questions:
1) Am I right in guessing that the IIS anonymous user must be the same as
the SCA guest user?

2) Is there a published recommendation for configuring anonymous access?
(e.g. am I safe to use the IUSR account, or should I use Guest or a
specifically created account?)

Thank you,
Paul

Sorry about the duplicate post, I received an error on my first post attempt.

Hi Paul,

the guest account in the SCA does not need to be the same as in IIS.
But the IUSR account in IIS needs to have the correct password! Otherwise
IIS anonymous access will not work and this will prevent MCMS guest users
from working.

Cheers,
Stefan.
