Hi,

I'm currently using CMS2002 to serve up Macromedia Flash (.swf) via
the Resource Gallery. The Flash file has relative links to different
parts of the web site. What I am finding is that some Flash files
will have links that all work, while other Flash files will have no
links that work. I can see no difference between the way the Flash
files are created.

When they don't work, I get a 404 error. Does this mean CMS is not
intercepting the request for the template file, and instead is passing
it on to IIS which cannot find the file either?

This only happens in the Production environment where the top level
channel name is domain.com (without the 'www'). The same set of Flash
files all work fine in staging.domain.com and authoring.domain.com.
Are there any known issues with having the channel name without the
'www'?

I'm pretty much stumped on this - does anyone have any ideas?

Regards,

Han.

Hi Han,

I assume the links that work are absolute links (starting from the root of
the web site) and the links that do not work are using relative links
(starting from the current directory).
With MCMS all links need to be absolute links.

Cheers,
Stefan

When I wrote my original message, all links within the Flash file were
relative links. Some worked, some did not.

We recommended that they use absolute paths in the meantime and it is
working. But I wouldn't exactly call this ideal, as then you would
need a different Flash file in Staging, a different Flash file in
Authoring, and so on. Is there a technical reason why the links need
to be absolute?

Thanks for your help on this.

Han.

Hi Han,

the reason is that MCMS renders different links for different modes.
So relative links will fail in 60% of all modes.

Cheers,
Stefan.

I now have a Flash file with an absolute path link to a CMS posting.
50% of the time, it loads fine, when it fails, I get a 404 error. I
can load the link everytime if I just type the URL into a browser, but
for some reason, it refuses to work all the time through the Flash
file. Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks,

Han.

Hi Han,

please check the URL that causes the 404.
Is it the expected URL?
Should this URL work correct based on your site structure?

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

The page the Flash file wants to load is
http://www.domain.com/mypage.html (CMS posting), however, the 404
error comes up on http://www.domain.com/templates/mypage (page on the
file system).

Han.

Hi Han,

please check in the IIS log if there is a request going to
http://www.domain.com/mypage.html or to
http://www.domain.com/templates/mypage or to both Urls.

Cheers,
Stefan.

Hi Stefan,

We have implemented a temporary workaround for the time being. One
thing I have noticed is that the Flash file linking issue only occurs
in one of our CMS environments and not another. Is there a particular
CMS setting somewhere that may be different between the two
environments?

Regards,

Han.

Hi Stefan,

I've found that changing the link from "html" to just "htm" seemed to
fix the problem. Thanks for your help on this!

Cheers,

Han.
