Hi,

Can you check your IIS logs for what URL is causing the 401 error.

Regards

HI angus,

I find this in the FAQ,

Topic: Valid users cannot logon to Site Manager on Windows XP

Valid users cannot logon to Site Manager on Windows XP.

Answer

This is due to a security Option in the Local Security Settings:

"Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts" was set to
"Guest only - local users authenticate as Guest" instead of "Classic - local
users authenticate as themselves.

Change the local security setting "Network access: Sharing and security
model for local accounts" of the Windows XP machine to "Classic - local
users authenticate as themselves"

To correct this setting:

1.. Open the MMC using "Start" - "Run..." - "MMC.EXE"
2.. Open the "Add/Remove Snap-in" dialog using "File..." - "Add/Remove
Snap-in"
3.. Click "Add..." on the "Add/Remove Snap-in" dialog
4.. Select "Group Policy" in the "Add standalone Snap-in" dialog and
click the "Add" button
5.. Click the "Finish" button in the "Select Group Policy Object" dialog
6.. Click the "Close" button on the "Add standalone Snap-in" dialog
7.. Click the "OK" button on the "Add/Remove Snap-in" dialog
8.. Expand "Local Computer Policy"
9.. Expand "Computer Configuration"
10.. Expand "Windows Settings"
11.. Expand "Security Settings"
12.. Expand "Local Policy"
13.. Click on "Security Options"
14.. In the right pane change the option "Network access: Sharing and
security model for local accounts" to "Classic - local users authenticate as
themselves"

But i cannot find Network access: Sharing and security model for local
accounts in the security Option, I am using Win XP.
this related??

Hi Choihead,

you have misconfigured the /NR virtual directory.
anonymous access to this virtual directory is required.

Please change this using IIS MMC.

Cheers,
Stefan.

I just checked about this, the ND Virtual Directory is anonymous access and
not an application.

when I try to connect to it, it will first prompt me to login like when I am
visiting the mcms site, and then, the soite manage login page will popup and
ask me to choose to login as my local user or a specify user, I choose the
second one and use the mcmsroot(MCMS Admin accoutn, I used this in MCMS
server to login to MCSM server), and then the 401 is pop up........
so is there any other setting, I have done wrong??

thx all

Hi Choihead,

this indicates that anonymous access does not work.
Either your IUSR account or password is incorrect or you removed read access
for the IUSR account from the files behind the /NR virtual directory.

Cheers,
Stefan.
