I've got some problems with CMS 2002 in a development=20
environment. I've spent the last 3 hours trawling the=20
inet for resolutions for this and haven't got any=20
further. Error dump included at bottom of post.

Things I've tried : After reading multiple articles=20
online, specficially this one :=20

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/2/5/4250f79a-

+FAQ.htm#C7A729AD-CC26-4D07-B82D-C2981802BB31

Thx Stef ( Guru )=20

1)
The Web application is not located on the local Microsoft=20
Visual Studio=AE .NET server. The developer tools can only=20
access the local MCMS server.=20

- My installation of Visual Studion.NET Server is=20
installed on the local MCMS server.=20

2)
The user running Microsoft Visual Studio .NET is not in a=20
Template Designer role or their role does not have access=20
to the root template gallery.

- The user does have rights, Im logging on as the CMS=20
Administrator anyway so this shouldn't be a valid=20
resolution for my problem. In addition I have created a=20
template designer roll and associated the CMS=20
Administrator account with this roll and assigned it=20
permissions to all my template galleries. =20

3)
Check the details of the error message text for further=20
hints. E.g. it can contain the message 'The CMS Server=20
license has expired'. If this happens for a non-eval=20
edition of MCMS then this indicates a problem when=20
reading the registry. This can be caused by permission=20
problem when accessing the registry. Please check the=20
permissions on the \HTKLM\Software\NCompass registry key.

- Done this, the "Users" group and my CMS account had=20
inherited Read Permissions, I expressly gave my CMS=20
account Full rights to this registry Key.=20

Ran Regmon.exe at the point of running Visual Studio.NET=20
to check that the keys are being read successfully. All=20
checked out OK.=20

4)
On Windows Server 2003 or with Windows 2000 SP4 ensure=20
that the user running Visual Studio .NET has=20
the "Impersonate a client after authentication" privilege.

- Im running Windows XP SP2, but I did this anyway.=20

I've also checked the following policies :=20

a) Local Security Settings > User Rights Assignment >=20
Impersonate a client after authentication ( My CMS=20
Account is assigned this policy )=20
b) Local Security Settings > Security Options > Network=20
Access : Sharing and security model for local accounts is=20
set to Classic.=20

My Environment :=20

+ Windows XP SP2 with all the latest critical updates (=20
ala windowsupdate.microsoft.com )=20
+ Visual Studio.NET
+ MSCMS Developer Tools
+ Latest .NET Framework
+ MSCMS latest patch level
+ SQL2000 latest patch level

Any ideas ?=20
