Author Channel Default Page ignored?

When i set a channel default page with site manager
(channels/properties/publishing/Channel Rendering/Default
Page), the next time i create a page for this channel it
will be the default shown to users who go to the channel,
even though the property still seems to be set correctly,
and even if I reset this property - the "Soring" order
seems to override this setting.

I have verified that "Select channel rendering / Use page
with name" is checked.

Has anybody experienced this (serious) problem? Is it a
bug? Thanks!

It sounds like you have the "Use First Page" setting checked. On the tab
you say below "default page", make sure you specify the name of the posting.
Keep in mind that the name is NOT exclusive in CMS.. if you say "default" as
your new page and you have two postings named "default", it will show the
one at the top of the sort order.

A better, more reliable way to do this is to create a custom channel
rendering script that checks to see if there's a posting named "default" in
the current channel. If so, it forwards to that posting as the default
page. If not, it shows the channel rendering script or the "Use First Page"
option.

Ah, or use the "Use page with this name" option in the Site Manager
properties dialog for a Channel. Right click on a channel, select
Properties. Go to the Publishing tab and click on Select... under the
Channel Rendering area. Then click the radio button "Use page with this
name" and enter a posting name to use for your default posting.

The alternative is just to apply a Channel Rendering Script to the
channel(s) which will automatically propogate to subchannels as they are
added. This way you don't need to create a default posting.
