Author newbee question: How do I make my first posting?

Hi.

I have made a new database with a new empty MCMS 2002 web, I can make
channels and templates, and everything seems to be running ok - also the
WoodgroveNet sample site.

I am following the setup in the book "Microsoft Content Managment Server
2002 - A complete guide".

But one thing I don't understand, and can't find in the book: How do I make
my first posting (e.g. a start page) based on one of my templates? Without
that, I don't know how to get access to Web Author so I can start create
more pages...!?

Regards,
Peter

You just have to create a channel using Site Manager. And then go to
http://localhost/channelname . The default behavior of the woodgrovenet web
site is to redirect you to authentication page. Enter your credentials, and
then you'll be able to switch to edit site, and create a new posting.

Thanks, but it work fine in the Woodgrovenet sample site.
My problem is how to get the first page posted in a new empty site, after I
designed a template.

(The book I am reading does not recommend using the sample site to build a
new site upon, because the unique id's of each site)

Peter :-)

Hi

Same. Browse to http://servername/channelname

As Stefano has mentioned, a default cover page appears
with the web author console.

Another way is to assign a summary page to the Script Url
property of the Channel.

Hi,

I get the default cover page ok and I see my channel structure on it, but
the web author console is not visible. Something with my user rights?

Regards,
Peter

Hi

Are you using Windows Authentication? If you have turned on guest access,
then you will need to implement Forms Authentication.

Since you were able to create Channels, I suppose you have at least Channel
Manager rights. With that, the console should appear.

Very likely to be. Give yourself at least author rights and you should be
able to see the Web author console.

If you have guest access turned on in a windows authenticated web site,
check this out too:
