Setting Published Date for channel to previous years

I have a problem of setting the channel's published date
to a previous years. Its because in one of our user
control, we are listing the news articles summary page in
the descending order based on published date and some of
the news articles are dated back to previous years(2003,
2002, etc).

The problem is its not allowing me set the published date
earlier than the CMS installation date. Please let me
know how to fix the same.
