My company is trying to determine how to replace our existing CMS with
MCMS2002. I've been trying to get it installed and working off and on for a
couple of weeks without success.... There are a couple of issues that keep
coming up - hopefully someone has some answers.

First, I'll try and explain what I'm trying to accomplish. We currently
have 3 websites running on Windows 2000/IIS5 (intranet, www, workforce).
Each website has it's own IP address. I would like to port our www site to
use MCMS2002. The server sits in a DMZ. Our internal network uses NAT. I
would like to block any kind of editing access to the outside. We do not
have any .NET application on the servers. There are several ASP
applications that will need to move to the MCMS2002 site.

My initial thought was to setup the websites like I currently have them (on
separate IP's) plus two additional websites: one for the SCA on port 81
(same IP as www) and another for read/write access to the www site on port
88. (The home directories for ports 80 & 88 are the same). I can get
everything installed just fine but when it comes to setting up templates,
everything goes awry.

Now for the questions:

1. We currently do not have any .NET applications on our website (ASP2.0
that will eventually be ported over, but not now). Since I cannot create a
CMS Application at the root of the virtual server (http://123.123.123.001/),
is there a recommended method for setting up a project so I can add
templates to the CMS site?

2. Is it necessary to install Visual Studio onto the production web server
that's running CMS? I'd rather not install something like that on the live
web server but VS.NET won't create a CMS project on a remote system (even
modifying the DeveloperTools.xml file as explained in the often-referred to
FAQ). I can't even create it on the local PC since I'm not using
"localhost" but an IP address. Or do I create the project on my development
system then copy the files to the production system.

3. Is there a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to do using MCSM2002?

Hi Chris,

Question 1
- .NET - the .NET framework 1.0 or 1.1 (with SP1a) needs to be installed on
the server running MCMS.
- Create the template virutal directory off the root ie:
http://123.123.123.001/YourSite_TemplateProject/

Question 2
- VS.NET required on the MCMS production server - No VS.NET & MCMS are
required on the development machine but you can just copy the ASP/ASP.NET
files to the produciton server

Question 3 - Is there a better way?
- Depending on your dynamic content requirements - You could use MCMS
internally and then take a static copy of the site and then deploy it to the
server as HTML files.
