sample install and vs project creation

| hi all,
think i'm having some fundamental problems with my cms and win2003 server. i
installed the cms fine and all appears to work good, plugs into my active
directory, can set up admins etc. however i have 2 problems:
1. tried installing the demo site and it won't install, seems to be a common
issue. i'm logged in as a local admin as i did for the cms install. when i
run the install it goes through leaving the defaults as i'm told to. i don't
get asked for any creditials and when it finishes i'm told there's been
problems with the installation. The site won't load etc. although annoying i
don't really need to have the sample running, but it would be nice.
2. next i tried to create a new vs cms solution running it off my
http://localhost/test but when i runs i get the following error "could not
create virtual directory 'http://localhost/test/CMS' in location
'c:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Content Management Server\server\IIS_CMS' "
Visual studio seems to create the solution as i get the files displayed in
solution explorer, but the files location are created in My Docs\Visual
Studio Projects\... and no virtual directory is created.
More background:
The default website is stopped and another website runs on port 80. The CMS
site runs on 80 also and the SCA site runs on 8081. Also the default website
location wwwroot etc isn't used other folders are. bit of a mess really.
now out of that am is there anything that shouts i'm doing anything wrong?
should anything be set up in CMS before trying to create a site?
Any help would be good.

| Hi Drazic,
1) did you run the setup.exe or the MSI?
The MSI will not install the sample in the database. You need to run
setup.exe
2) sounds as if you are working against a website different from the default
website.
This is not officially supported but can be enabled by using the hints in
the following article:

Cheers,
Stefan

| Hi Stefan,
thanks for the help. even running the exe file i get the virtual directory
cannot be created error. on a side note, i tried starting up the default
website in IIS but i get a port already in use error, i was under the
impression that you could run as many sites as you wanted on a single port?
looking into that link you sent me, will let you know how it goes thanks.
