Hello:

When I run the set up, I get the following two errors:

1. The readme file that was part of the installation says that the setup
will ask for the CMS Administrator's credentials. However, it did not. Could
it be because I am a user part of the CMS Administrator group?

2. After it finishes copying the files, it comes up with an error message,
"The setup encountered an error when trying to create a virtual directory for
the application." However, I see through IIS manager that the virtual
directory has been created.

3. I don't see any default page in the virtual directory. No Html files
either.

4. Within IIS Manager, when I choose to browse the virtual directory, I get
a 403 error saying that I am not authroized to view this page.

Can somebody help me overcome these issues?

Thanks.

Stefan:

I did not expect you to reply so fast! Do you ever take a break?

While I was waiting for your reply, I took a shot and installed the ASP
version of the sample site and the feedback during the install was totally
different.

It found the entry point, asked me for credentials to import data and it
finished the setup without encountering any errors.

After setup, I see that it created a virtual directory, "Woodgrove ASP" off
my website, "SCA Point of entry" and I could browse the site.

So, I am confused about what you said:

"the SCA and the Woodgrove entry point should not be the same as the MCMS
site should not be identical with the SCA site.

Please install woodgrove on the MCMS site and not on the SCA site."

Also, I tried installing the Net verison on the default website and the
issues remained the same.

Thanks so much.

Stefan:

The same was with installing the intranet version.

I also noticed that the ASP version created a virtual directory,
"WoodgroveASP" pointing to a local directory, "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Content Management Server\Sample Data\WoodgroveASP" while the other two
created virtual directory with the local directory off Default Web Site
pointing to "\WoodgroveIntranet"

I am puzzled why the Net and Intranet versions are different from the ASP
version.

Thanks.

Hi Venki,

this is the only way to ensure that they can live side by side.

Cheers,
Stefan.

Hi Venki,

it is for security reasons that you should not host any MCMS site on the SCA
site.
The SCA site should be locked down to have access only from the local
machine and potentiall from dedicated other client machines.

Cheers,
Stefan.

Stefan:

If I sound confused, it's because I am.

I have two sites defined, the "default web site" uisng port 80 and another,
"SCA Entry Point" using port 81. I was pllanning to use the default web site
as the MCMS site.

Irregardless which port I point to, both the intranet and the Net version of
the sample site encounters the same errors.

As I said, when I look at the directory, there's no htmp, htm or asp files
anywhere in it.

Thanks.

Hi Venkat,

the problem is that the virtual directory cannot be created.
Most likely it already exists.

Please delete it and run the setup again.

Cheers,
Stefan.

Stefan:

I made sure the Virtual Directory did not exist but it did not make any
difference.

Also, the properties of the Virtual Directory created by the setup and that
created manually using the wizard in the IIS Manager seem to be very
different. I have sent screen shots of the two virtual directories'
properties window to your email address.

Please comment

The message I tried to send with the screen shots was returned. Can you
share an address that I can send them to? You can send me a message at

Was there ever a resolution to this? I am experiencing the exact same
difficulty as described here. I have two web sites: the SCA and the
default. When I try to install WoodGroveIntranet, the virtual
directory is created, but I receive the error message that started
this thread off. Ditto the "you are not authorized" message when I
try to browse it.
