Author Multiple Site Support?
LacOniC

We couldn't decide yet. =) In fact a firm presented a solution based on
DNN but we saw it's not we are looking for. For example DNN needs multiple
iss settigns and different databases for each site (in our situation
subdomains). MS CMS support multiple sites? If yes, support multiple sites
in one database?

Main situation is that:

We will create subdomains for (15-30) departments of our company. They will
insert their own content and this content will need approval. Authors (who
will approve content) are 2 people. One of them will control content, other
one will control design of page. But they should control all this mechanizm
by one page. I mean they souldn't logon different sites (subdomains) to
approve content. (DNN's problem) Central management is important for us.

Hi Lac,

MCMS Enterprise edition supports multiple sites and all are stored in the
same database.
Actually MCMS would not support different databases.

Users of the Template designers role are responsibe to create the layout
stuff while users of the Author role are resposible to provide content.
Other roles like Editors, Moderators are responsible for approval (if
required) and Resource Manager to manage images and other binaries which can
be used by authors as resources.

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

I read document, it talk about "new site" in IIS. But there is no "new
site" option in XP IIS. There is in Server 2003. How to create new site in
XP IIS?

One more. Can we add polls/surveys to MCMS? There is no built-in as i
read. Users should create polls but content (new poll/survey) must be
approved by high level users.

Hi Lac,

it is not possible to create a new site in XP.
You need to use the one website available.

MCMS does not support poll or surveys. You need to integrate 3rd party
ASP.NET solutions for this or implement this on your own.
E.g.:

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan, can we integrate 3. Party Solutions with MCMS's approval
system?

Hi Lac,

yes this is possible.
The following online book - which I coauthored - covers integration of a 3rd
party workflow engine into MCMS:

Stefan

Stefan i asked so much question and answers usually were same, yes. =)
I'll ask a general question. What can't we do with MCMS? There is an article
that covers this situation (limitations) for developers?

Hi Lac,

actually there are a couple of things you can't do with MCMS.
The main limitations are,

- you can't create resource galleries programmatically
- you can't create custom channel properties programmatically
- you can't create or modify rights groups programmatically
- you can't assign a rights group to a container programmatically

Cheers
Stefan

Hmm. But we can change process?

For example, when a user update content, it should be approved by two
separate user (secretary and webmaster) before published. And they should be
notified by e-mail when there is pending contents. MCMS let us to do these?

Hi Lac,

MCMS does not support a 3 level workflow (author, secretary, webmaster) out
of the box.
Only a 2 level workflow.

But MCMS allows to send emails to the editors and moderators.
When a 3rd party workflow engine is implemented to support multi-level
workflow this 3rd party workflow engine would have to provide access the the
configured approvers.

Cheers,
Stefan
