Sitemanager last modified date is not the same as in Revision History
|
|
| patrick 2005-11-22, 5:54 pm |
| Hi
I have a strange behavioir on one of our MCMS02 SP1 environments.
There is a Stage and a Live environment. the authors use the stage
server to edit content and there is a application center script which
is responsable for the deployemnt to the live server.
now, if an author edits and approves a posting, the last modified date
in the sitemanager still remains the same, but in revision history the
date is the right one..
now, the problem is, that the depoyment doesn't work correct.. because
it doesn't export this posting
I have no event which is registred to any CMS event like approve or
save.
any ideas?
regards
patrick

| Hi Stefan
... thanks for the response.. and sorry for the late reaction by my
side.
i'm a bit afraid of opening a case, because i think there will be a lot
of work, and maybe no result.
i did a bit more research on this situation.
- there are 2 domains
- the modifed date only changes with a group of users which are from a
specific domain
- the users from the other domain, don't change the last modified date
- the users are in the same role (Admins)
does this help you?
greetings
patrick

| Hi Stefan
it's me and my last modified date again...
I hope you had a nice christmas
A few questions:
-> If a User is in Adminsistrator Role, why does the last modified date
only changes when the user approves a posting and not if he submits
one? The Page is anyway published (I didn't checked this behavoiur for
ither roles without a worflow)
-> What is the difference between the Last Modified Date in the
Webfrontend (Revision History) and the Last Modified Date in the
Sitemanager.
-> Which date is the important one for the sitedeployment API, to
decide, if the posting needs to be incrementally deployed?
Thanks in Advance

| Hi Stefan
i hope you had a nice christmas !
it's me again with my last modified date..
i got a few questions:
-> if a user from the adminstrator role is editing a posting, and
submitting it, why the last modified date will not set (The posting
will be published ) ?
-> Why does the user need to approve the posting to set the date?
-> Is this by Design ?
-> Why is the Date of the "last submit" visible in the webfrontend
(Revision History) and not in the Sitemanager
-> Which of the 2 Dates (Sitemanager / Revision) is the date which
counts for the incremental deployment of the deployment API ?
Thanks in Advance

| Hi Patrick,
from my head I'm only able to answer the last question: none of these dates.
MCMS just looks at a flag in the Change Table to see if the item has to be
deployed again or not.
And only approved versions are looked at. The last modified date will also
change if the item is not approved.
Cheers,
Stefan

| Hi Patrick,
about your other questions:
SiteManager always shows the Modification Date of the approved version of a
posting (if an approved one exists).
You can see this also as the Locking Owner is then "Everybody" - although an
unapproved posting exists.
WebAuthor will show the Modification Date of the latest revision - means the
unapproved version if it exists.
Cheers,
Stefan

| Thanks four your replies
i always tought that an Submit of a posting from user in a role which
has no "parent Role" assigned on the channel will result in a
auto-approve..

| Hi Patrick,
please verify the state of the posting in webauthor.
Only if it lists "Approved" or "Published" it is approved.
Btw: what do you mean by "parent Role"?
Cheers,
Stefan

| Hi Stefan
If there is a implementation of a workflow with a Editor/Author, the
Editor is the parent role for the author..
to the publishing problem:
-> if there are only adminstrators on a mcms channel structure, then
the submit of a posting results in a page with status "published" . But
the posting isn't really published according your post.
i think this shouldn't be like that.
for me the behaviour should be like that:
-> if there is no workflow and the admistrator submits the posting, an
Auto-Approve should be done. (and the approve-event should be fired)
in my case i will now deactivate the submit-link in the Console..
Other suggestions?
greetings
patrick

| Stefan [MSFT] 2005-12-29, 7:49 am |
| Hi Patrick,
if the state is Published, then the posting is published.
This information is reliable.
If submit is fired an Submit event is fired. Autoapprove does not fire any
events.
If you expect and autoapprove you should hide the "Submit" button on your
posting.
Cheers,
Stefan

| Hi Stefan
if you like to reconstruct my situation.
i did the following:
-> Edit a already published posting as an administrator in channel with
no authors/editors
-> Save & exit
-> Submit
-> Page Status is Published & Lock Status not Locked
-> The Changes which i did are also visible in Livemode
-> In the Sitemanager the last modified date has not changed
greetings
patrick

| Stefan [MSFT] 2005-12-29, 7:49 am |
| Hi Patrick,
that is correct.
The when an autoapprove is done only the Page object is modified but not the
Posting object.
If approve is hist as well the Page object and the Posting object is
modified.
Interesting...
Cheers,
Stefan

| hi stefan
i think this could be called a bug, or is this by design ;-)
anyway.. its not really critical, if its known then the workaround with
hiding the submit button is enough...
i wish you a happy new year.. and i hope we will have a lot of fun next
year with office12

| Hi Patrick,
I would say that it is a bug that the last modified date changes when
hitting the approve button.
There is no need to modify the posting object while doing an approve.
Cheers,
Stefan
