| I'm in the process of implementing MCMSSearch written by Snow Valley. I
can't tell you the results yet, but it is a workable solution. Especially
since we're given the source code..
check out...

| MondoSearch has the longest history of being an MCMS customized search
application.
It comes from Mondosoft, which is a Microsoft MCMS partner - and has a large
number of
MCMS reference customers.
Sharepoint Portal can be used in intranet scenarios - but can be expensive
for Internet usage,
due to their licensing model. Being a Microsoft product it comes with their
product support.
For Internet usage you can also get hosted search engines, from Atomz,
Google and others.
You can also do your own integration on top of most other search engines if
you are not using
some of the special MCMS features, such as forms login and authentication.
Some of the search engines (eg MondoSearch) also allows you to index other
(non-MCMS) websites, database content, file shares etc.
Some search engines allows you to easily omit the words in the navigation or
breadcrumps
from the searchable words (eg MondoSearch) - which can improve your search
quality.
Some search engines allow you to measure how well they are doing - so you
can improve search over time - based on search behavior - or find out that
people are not finding what they are looking for.
If the target is just to have a search box that sometimes find things, any
search engine will do,
but if you want quality search you may need to test more that just the
"cheapest" solution.
It is often better to integrate something that works well from the beginning
than later
having to replace components.

Thomas Fritzen

| Jane, try ES.NET (crawler-based). We're getting ready to launch an MCMS
site that uses this product as the primary search tool.
