Hi all,

I have seen a lot of posts on the fact that App Ctr is a recommended
way to deploy CMS applications. I am reading thru the white paper and
am having difficulty understanding some fundamental concepts:

Our architecture -

WS - DB (Authoring)
/ \
/ \
WS - DB (Staging) WS1 WS2 - DB (Production)

In addition we have a server set aside for Application Center (not sure
if we need this). Our intent is to migrate code/content from
(authoring to Production) and
(authoring to staging) servers respectively.

My basic questions:
1) Where does the application center software need to be installed? The
document says install on all the servers. Does it mean the web servers
and database servers or just the web or database?
2) Where all does the MCMSDeploy Utility need to be installed?

The document also mentions using the Application Center from staging to
Production. I am assuming that is not a requirement. Can i do it from
authoring to staging and from authoring to production?

Thanks very much
- laks..

Hi Laks,

1) only on the web servers. Not on the database servers.

2) the deployweb tool can be run as well on the source as on the destination
server (staging, authoring, production)
And yes: deployment can be done between any server you like.

Cheers,
Stefan

Does this mean, we dont need a server dedicated for Application Center?

Stefan [MSFT]

Correct.
Application Center is always installed on the web servers.

Stefan

As i read further in the document..I am at a point where ISA server
needs to be configured. Does this ISA server need to be a stand alone
server. Is it a mandatory requirement.

Or does this have tobe on the web servers where the App Center is
installed??

Thanks

Hi Laks,

ISA server is just a placeholder for the firewall which should be in front
of your web farm.

Stefan

Also how is this application center licensed?
Is it per processor?

Hi Laks,

Stefan

Maybe, but the original question was posed as AC being the recommended tool for MCMS deployments. "Wrong newsgroup" in that context seem a little abrupt. How about just pointing Laks to http://www.microsoft.com/applicatio...uy/licenses.asp instead?
Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,

if i would have known this link I would have pointed him to this link.
Someone familiar with AC can answer such answers easier - that's why I
pointed him to the most effective newsgroup.
That's all.

Cheers,
Stefan
