CMS 2001 and Windows Server 2003
|
|
|
| Hi everybody,
Has somebody installed a system using Windows Server 2003 and CMS 2001? Does
it work properly? I have changed a CMS 2001 application in a Windows 2000
machine to this system and I've got problems with the CMS user type
identification and editing templates.
Somebody knows something about this?
Thank you very much.

| It can be done and gotten to work. However it is an unsupported scenario.
The security policy changes in Windows 2003 Server (particularly DCOM,
AEServer service and NTLM Authentication Providers) and the 'architectural'
changes in IIS6 are the key pain points in getting it to work.
The real question is why would you want to run MCMS 2001 on Windows 2003
when...
a) it's unsupported, and
b) MCMS 2002 works just great on w2k3, and to be perfectly frank kicks
2001's butt.
I empaphise with the scenario whereby the platform is being migrated from
W2K to W2k3 and the applications need to remain the same (this is a VERY
common customer scenario). However, it's much less pain to move from MCMS
2001 to MCMS 2002 than getting 2001 working on w2k3.
You can effectively upgrade to MCMS 2002 in mixed mode and be done with it -
not a lot of hassle there. The key point is that 2001 isn't supported by
MSFT on w2k3 and the risk inherent in this outweighs any other fiscal or
techincal concerns.

| We have the same configuration of CMS 2001 and Windows 2003.
Specifically the only error we are getting with it is an error when
trying to edit templates in Site Builder - a "Download of template
file" error. Do you know offhand of a way to fix this particular one?
Everything else seems to be working perfectly, but without the ability
to edit the templates, it is useless to our client.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

| Hi,
this is completly unsupported and CMS 2001 will not run correct on Windows
Server 2003.
Don't spend any efforts in this scenario.
Either use CMS 2002 (if Windows Server 2003 is a must) or use Windows 2000.
Cheers,
Stefan

| Hi,
there is no fix and this is an unsupported scenario.
MCMS 2001 will not run correct on Windows Server 2003.
Either use MCMS 2002 or use Windows 2000.
Cheers,
Stefan
