Author Big problem on our development box...

Hi Stefan,

We have a development box and a live box. Unfortunately, I was not here when
the systems were set up and configured so I don't know how the system was
built.

For this purpose, our live server is called LIVE, our Dev server is called
DEV.

I logged into our DEV with the CMS Admin account. Went into the User Roles,
click Administrators, then looked at who was in the admin group.

For some very strange reason, we had WinNT://LIVE/AdminUsers on the DEV box.

Naturally, we removed them. Now, we cannot log in as a CMS Admin. We have
used SCA to try and restore it back (using DEV/AdminUsers) but to no avail.
We can log in once but logging out then back in, we have nothing. :-(

I used SCA to put my account in as an admin. This works every time as
expected, so I then tried putting DEV/AdminUsers back through the Site
Manager. Still won't work.

Even though I am logging into site manager with DEV selected and AdminUsers
account, we still have the problem.

We have tried restoring the mcms database, rebooting the server, to no
avail. The items we removed will not restore. :-(

As we are not in a domain, (stand alone boxes) we cannot easily add the LIVE
server accounts to the DEV box.

What are my options apart from a total rebuild?

Thanks.
Regards,
Dave Colliver.

Hi all,

Fixed it. :-)

Aaarrrggghhh!!!

For the record, this is what I did.

When I deleted the LIVE accounts, I left the DEV accounts alone. Now, I
could not log on, so originally rant he DCA with the DEV accounts still in
the admin group in site manager.

I am guessing the DCA saw the same account name that I was trying the make
the admin and didn't bother to refresh it.

So, I removed all accounts except my name from the admin group. Closed all
site managers, ran the DCA, added the admin account, then ran the site
manager. I ran it as my account, checked the admin account had been entered
and it had but also the LIVE admin account was also there (with <Unknown> at
the side.)

All appears to be working now.

Regards,
Dave Colliver.

Hi David,

to resolve this you need to run the DCA again and add a new administrator.

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi,

When I said SCA, I meant DCA. :-(

However, it is fixed now. :-)

We had tried the DCA first, which didn't fix it initially. (Tried it a few
times...) However, removing the users from site admin, then re-adding through
the DCA fixed it. :-)
