Slowness while editing
|

| We're having trouble editing one of the apges on our site. A user will try to
edit the placeholder and Internet Explorer will lock up for 15+ minutes. I've
seen this behavior on four different machines now.
The weird thing is that it's only on one page, so far, anyway. Editors on
other pages are not reporting any problems.
This is the most edited page on our site, so thinking the number of
revisions might play a role, I purged them, but no luck there.
This is CMS 2001 on a Win2K server. Normal editing placeholder. (No
Telerik.) Any thoughts?

| Hi Paul,
I would suggest to take a netmon trace to see if the problem occurs on the
server or on the client.
Just have a look if it takes that long to download the content to the client
or if the client uses all the time after the content has been downloaded.
Cheers,
Stefan

| I looked at this a little further and it's a little weirder. It's only one
placeholder on the page that's giving us problems. The rest can be edited
with no problem.
Does that help any?

| Hi Paul,
no idea. Is the content of the placeholder differnt from the other?
Did you take a netmon trace?
Cheers,
Stefan

| Further information:
*netmon hasn't provided anything useful
*recreating the page and starting over yielded the same results
*IE maxes out the CPU while it's hung, until whatever it's doing is complete
One thought that came to mind: could it be too many links being in the
placeholder? There's about 29 in one of the ones giving us trouble and 26 in
the other?
Thanks for any help.

| Hi Paul,
netmon hasn't provided anything useful is not possible.
It can proof that the server is causing the delay or that the client is
causing the delay.
No other findings are possible.
So please focus on the netmon trace again and analyze where the delay is
being caused.
Cheers,
Stefan
