SP2 Templates - cant pick Master Page
|

| Michael P. 2006-01-17, 8:48 pm |
| When I try to create an MCMS Template Item I dont get the checkbox enabled
to "Select master page" I defined.
Did I do something wrong? Do I have to wire it by hand?
Thanks,
Michael P.

| Hello Michael P.,
The "select master page" option is not available when you add a new MCMS
Template File to a Web Site project.
You only have the option if you choose the Web Form template from Add New
Item.
CHeck out http://www.mcmsfaq.com/articles/sp2mp.asp (scroll down to the section
"Creating a Content Page for use as a MCMS Template") for more details.

| Thanks Spence,
This is very helpful information. I'm sorry to be critical here but isn't
this kinda lame? I've done this myself before the service pack. I thought
that is what the service pack was for - that is to have integration with VS
2005. What about those Item templates - are they useless?
thanks again,
Michael

| Hello Michael,
Yup, pretty much! In the case of the MCMS Template File, it's identical
to what shipped previously.
This isn't much of an issue however given that any Web Form can be an MCMS
Template and in VS 2005 it's now very easy to save/export your own templates.
The key VS integration offered by SP2 is about the IDE integration of the
Template Explorer and the enabling of MCMS web site projects, rather than
a bunch of decent templates.

| Hello Michael,
Actually you can edit the template and change
<SupportsMasterPage>false</SupportsMasterPage>
then it works - but the contents of the template still suck so it's probably
not worth the effort!

I see - thanks. I guess I should not complain being that it came out early
and it gets (well - can get) the job done.
Nice FAQ you have there btw - very informative and practical.
