Hi,

I've noticed some behaviour in MCMS which has me little puzzled. There is
most likely an explanation for this behaviour - I'm probably missing
something obvious....

If I re-edit a posting from a channel that has a moderator assigned to it
then the Posting.StateApprovedVersion for that posting changes from Published
to WaitingForModeratorApproval. Of course when this happens the previously
published version of the posting is removed from the published site. If the
channel does not have a moderator then the StateApprovedVersion stays as
Published and the previously published version remains visible on the
published site.

If the posting has already been approved previously then why does its status
change? I can understand that the changes to the posting need approval, but
why also the previously published version? The result of all this is that
postings that get edited are removed from the published site, which in this
case is what our customer wants.

The problem I had was that there were different channels exhibiting
different bahaviour and its taken me quite some time to figure out that the
presence/absence of a moderator is causing it.

Any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Stefan,

Thankyou for the reply. The link was helpful but I still don't understand
fully what is happening. I've edited the content in a placeholder, so if I
understand correctly that is a change to the page object and not the posting,
so I wouldn't expect to need moderator approval. The behaviour I am seeing
seems to indicate that the posting has also been changed. Which property of
the posting would get updated in this case?

As I mentioned in my original post our customer is happy with the way things
are working so we don't need a workaround for it. I'm just trying to
understand this for my own benefit.

Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean,

you are right: modifying a placeholder content without doing anything else
will not require moderator approval. MCMS itself will not modify a posting
property in this situation.

It might be that you have a workflow event in place that also modifies one
of the properties when a placeholder is updated?

Cheers,
Stefan
