Author Multiple sites w/ one MCMS deployment -- Different channel names

I'll try to explain this without sounding too convoluted.

The current site set up is an internal server that has the channel name
www.sitename.com that is used for authoring. This is updated to an
external server via an incremental .sdo export that runs hourly. The
external server is also set up as www.sitename.com.

When accessing the internal machine, we address it as
http://machinename/www.sitename.com.

The network guys have host headers set up to direct things around. This
setup is working fine.

We want to add a second top level channel that will be named
www.sitenameTwo.com. Just to avoid the BS involved with adding the
machine name to the beginning, I'd like to name it dev.sitenameTwo.com
on the develpment machine and www.sitenameTwo.com on the production
machine.

Will the difference in channel names cause a problem in using the
incremental export? I know that a full deployment will change the top
level channel names and I don't want that to be happening during the
updates.

Are there any issues I should look out for?

Thanks,

Mark B

Hi Mark,

yes. This is not recommended.
Ensure that the channel name stays the same and use the solution outlined
below to map a different URL to the same channel:
