| I've setup a new WinXP workstation for developing MCMS but have encountered a 401.2 error that I can't get rid of. Occasionally I get to the MCMS built-in "Authentication Required" page; but then get bounced back to the standard IE logon prompt; but the
credentials are never accepted. I have compared the settings to a number of other working machines and all the settings are identical. Running MCMS 2002 SP2.
- using NTLM authentication, no Kerberos
- the MCMS and NR folders both have anonymous and NTLM set
- CMS virtual directory has been created inside the site folder and pointed to IIS_CMS
- user account has admin privs in MCMS
I've taken a look at Stefan's MCMS 2002 - (complete) FAQ; and run adsutil.vbs to ensure NTLM is being used; but nothing. I've installed MCMS so many times, I can't count that high; but each time this problem presented itself, there was an obvious configu
ration error, until now.
As I said, the settings I listed above are identical to half a dozen other dev environments that are working properly.
TIA.
- JR

| Sorry, I meant to say that the MCMS and NR folders ALSO both only have NTLM set.

| Hi Stefan;
Checked that; and the Local Security Policy is already set to that value.
I ended up uninstalling and re-installing everything about three times; but finally got it to work.
Because this was a new machine setup and the MCMS database was already upgraded - I skipped running the DCA until after SP2 was applied on the new workstation. I finally resolved it by running the DCA after applying SP1a but before installing SP2. Other
than that; I followed the same ritual each time.
Thanks for the help.

| Hi JR,
are you using SQL authentication?
Then you need this hotfix:

| Hi Stefan;
I was performing the install as the MCMS system account which has dbo privs within the database.
Not sure what went wrong; but for some reason everything started working after a few reinstalls...
