Author Allow users to view unpublished pages

Hi,

We have a need to have some users look at, let's say, a press release before
it gets published. Given that this group of users should not be able to
update any content (read-only), is it possible (out of the box) to allow
certain users to view pages in an unpublished mode?

Just asking to see if anybody has come up with a solution for such a
requirement.

I don't think you can get the functionality out of the box. But you could
write some very simple PAPI event handlers and PAPI code to look at your CMS
and trigger mails when there is an edit.

Alternatively, create a group for the users who should look at the press
release and make them part of the approval workflow.

Hi Pandu,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately we don't them to be part of the
workflow; they just need to look at a page before it gets published.

Another option may be to create a guest account on the authoring server,
automatically create a copy of an unpublished posting, publish it, and place
it in a designated channel that's not accessible on the public-facing servers.

I have a similar requirement - but then we're working with CMS in a very
different mode with a lot of customizations.

We're actually trapping some events and firing off an email component to get
users to view the actual page.

If it is just the content they want to review, you might want to consider
building a simple new template that just picks content from the placeholder
(or by making a Web Service call or something) and then displays it to them.

If it is just the content, you could also see if you want to email the
content to them directly and then see if that works somehow on them sending a
mail back saying it is fine.

Regards,
Pandurang

Well there is a way that i did some time ago, but it is not fancy... But it
works:

You could make a template that takes the credentials of person with access
to the press releases. By this the content can be displayed.

The posting based on that template may only be accessable by the reviewers.
